AIMS OF PROJECT

The aims of the project:


1. Promoting of the importance of rivers and wetlands for biodiversity.
2. Study and comparison water quality in different partner cities. Students will study the samples of river water taken during excursions.
3. Comparison of landscape, fauna and flora living in river's valley and rivers. Students will carry out observations of landscape, fauna and flora and will take some photos of them.
4. Gather knowledge about biodiversity in rivers and study documents concerning state of river biodiversity in Europe (EU 2010 Biodiversity Baseline, European Water Charter).
5. Study the use of rivers for hydroelectric energy production/ impacts in landscape and biodiversity (Students will visit central hydropower production and will also take some photos).
6. Study the impacts of tourism on rivers and development of the region.
7. Spread information how to protect life in rivers.
8. Increase public awareness about the factors threatening the life in the rivers.
9. Distributing information about biodiversity of rivers among students and local community (leaflets, posters, etc.).
10. Develop an active and conscious European citizenship.
11. Motivate all teachers and learners to increase the number of foreign languages they speak and improve their foreign language skills. Identify and disseminate effective methods of science teaching such as methods of supporting the research activities of students (learning by discovery).
12. Improve critical thinking.
13.Develop skills in the use of ICT tools to make research, communicate, organize and present information.
14. Promote interdisciplinary activities and transnational cooperation and exchange.
15. Exchanging ideas between students from different countries and communication with each other (via e-mail, facebook, internet forums and personally in meetings).
16. Publishing articles concerning river biodiversity and all activities done in the project.
17. Organizing school competitions concerning biodiversity.
18. Creating a web page of the project and an interactive CD-ROM in several languages including English that will be presented in order to be distributed in the participating schools and be useful in student curriculum.
19. Making interviews in order to get to know students' opinion on biodiversity of rivers and asking questions on about the contents of the project.
20. Promote the transnational dissemination of good practice and innovation in the management of schools.
